Susanna Vela seeks full dossier on University of Andorra Centre for Health Sciences

Susanna Vela, president and general councillor of the Social Democratic parliamentary group, has submitted a formal information request to the Government seeking full documentation on the University of Andorra’s planned Centre for Health Sciences and the future organisation of health research in the country.

The request asks for all documents that define the project, including the planned budget, technical and organisational plans, and the human, technical and material resources required. Vela also requests a list of the institutions that will collaborate on the centre and detailed information on its design and implementation to clarify its scope and capacity.

Vela seeks specifics on the transfer and oversight of research projects until now carried out by the National Epidemiology Laboratory, and on the future employment status and placement of its current staff. The submission asks how the National Epidemiology Laboratory will be restructured and requests any information relating to the Public Health Laboratory in connection with the new university centre.

A central concern is whether the Andorran Health Care Service (SAAS) has the capacity to assume or guarantee continuity of research activities, particularly in epidemiology and public health, during and after the transition. The request asks which institutions or services will be responsible for ongoing surveillance and public-health research functions.

Vela underlines the need for transparency because the project will directly affect health research and the quality of the public health system. “It is essential to ensure that no research capacity is lost and that current teams have a clear and defined continuity,” she said.

The Social Democratic group says it expects to receive the requested information so it can rigorously assess the project’s impact and safeguard the interests of the public health system and the scientific community.
