Chimney fire in Canillo's Ribagrossa urbanisation extinguished after evacuation

Firefighters were called just before 23:00 to a chimney fire at a residential building on Carretera del Forn in the Ribagrossa urbanisation of Canillo. Emergency crews deployed a ladder truck and a fire engine, and two police units plus parish traffic officers also attended the scene.

The alarm was raised at 22:49. Flames were visible from outside the building, and icy conditions on the roof slowed operations because crews had to secure themselves before working on the upper parts of the property. The fire was brought under control and declared extinguished shortly after midnight, around 00:30.

About thirty residents were evacuated as a precaution and taken to the Roc Meler hotel. Because no major damage was found and there were no serious injuries, most people were able to return to their homes later that night.

Authorities have not issued a final determination on the cause. The emergency service’s duty officer told local media the blaze was likely sparked by a severely soiled flue—attributed to poor maintenance—which allowed flames to affect much of the roof. Investigations remain ongoing.
