La Seu d'Urgell city council began work yesterday to convert the Cal Pensament legacy building, located between Avinguda Pau Claris and Passatge de la Missió, into twelve affordable rental flats aimed at facilitating young people’s emancipation. A security fence was installed along Passatge de la Missió to allow construction to proceed while protecting pedestrians.
The renovation includes upgrading the building envelope for energy efficiency, installing interior partitions and finishes, and fitting the necessary systems to make the property suitable for housing. The building is planned to achieve an energy label A, meaning top-level efficiency, and will not use fossil fuels.
The roof will be fitted with 48 solar panels to supply a large share of the energy needed for the building’s operation. The council has already secured a subsidy of €267,545 from the Catalan Housing Agency to fund the project.
