A delegation from Andorra led by Joan‑Marc Joval, director of the Department of Cultural Promotion at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, travelled to Guadalajara this weekend to take part in the Feria Internacional del Libro (FIL) in Mexico. It is the Principality’s first formal presence at the fair, widely regarded as the most important literary event in the Spanish‑speaking world.
The mission included representatives from Medusa, Anem Editors (David Gálvez), Editorial Andorra (Lluís Viu) and Trotalibros (Jan Arimany). The ministry financed the trip and accompanied the publishers as part of a broader strategy to support the internationalisation of Andorran publishing and respond to a long‑standing request from the sector.
Delegates began holding meetings with potential partners after the opening ceremony, focusing on establishing contacts with Latin American publishers and distributors. The trip was pitched as prospecting: testing interest, building professional networks and exploring distribution arrangements or possible exchanges rather than closing immediate deals.
Officials said the aim is to identify collaboration projects that could raise the visibility of Andorran titles and authors among Spanish‑language readers and to assess the viability of distribution in Latin America. Joan‑Marc Joval highlighted the large volume of meetings being held and described Guadalajara as an opportunity to strengthen the commercial prospects of Andorran publishers.
Andorra’s participation coincides with a prominent Catalan presence at the fair: Barcelona is this year’s guest city. The Andorran delegation will take part in events organised under Barcelona’s invitation alongside the Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Institut Ramon Llull.
The ministry noted it has previously supported publishers at regional and national events such as the Fira del Llibre del Pirineu, the Setmana del Llibre en Català and the Feria del Libro de Madrid, and considers Guadalajara a strategic next step for expanding access to the Latin American market. A post‑mission review is expected after the delegates return to assess outcomes and decide on follow‑up steps.
