Roser Carol — Proofreader, Philologist and Catalan Public Figure

Roser Carol is a proofreader, philologist and translator active in Andorran and Catalan cultural circles. She is known for an outspoken, energetic public presence and a conversational, often irreverent use of Catalan that contrasts with a rigorous command of formal language.

Her public persona—marked by a hoarse, emphatic voice and contagious laughter—has made her a visible and sometimes divisive figure: admired by many for her vivacity and candour, and uncomfortable for others who prefer a more restrained public sphere. Together with Àlvar Valls she was chosen by the Institut d’Estudis Catalans to revise its new grammar, a notable endorsement of her technical expertise. She also shares professional affinities with lexicographers and writers such as Albert Jané and Eduard Màrquez, and aligns with the late Carme Junyent on supporting feminist demands while cautioning against interventions that alter language without sufficient knowledge.

Carol and Àlvar Valls have conducted extensive archival and documentary research on Jacint Verdaguer. Their work on the poet—including the publications Verdaguer dia a dia; Cronologia de Jacint Verdaguer (1845–1902); and Bibliografia general de Jacint Verdaguer (1864–2023)—has established them as leading specialists on his life and oeuvre.

Her scholarship extends to paremiology: she has compiled a large collection of Catalan sayings. She is also a translator and coauthor of Llegendes d’Andorra, and has collaborated with various Andorran media. For many years she has written a weekly column in a local paper and maintains an active, succinct presence on the social network X.
