Andorra reports modest flu rise but stays below epidemic threshold
Flu cases in Andorra have doubled recently but remain within typical seasonal levels and below the epidemic threshold, unlike nearby Catalonia where.
Key Points
- Flu incidence rose from about 8 to just over 16 cases per 100,000—still below the 20/100,000 epidemic threshold.
- Situation considered typical for past seasons, not mirroring Catalonia’s earlier, faster rise.
- Last week saw an uptick in acute respiratory infections and flu cases.
- Vaccinations administered so far: 6,681 flu, 602 adult RSV, and 793 COVID-19 doses.
Health ministry sources say the flu’s progression in Andorra is not as advanced as in nearby Catalonia, where authorities estimate the season is about two weeks ahead of previous years. Current figures in Andorra are following a typical pattern and are not considered “extraordinary,” the ministry told Altaveu.
Last week there was an uptick in acute respiratory infections in general and flu cases in particular. Flu incidence in Andorra has doubled, rising from about 8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to just over 16 per 100,000, but remains below the epidemic threshold of 20.
Officials stressed that, despite the increase, the situation in Andorra is comparable to past seasons and does not mirror the earlier and faster rise detected in neighbouring regions, where the epidemic peak could occur sooner this year.
The vaccination campaign is also tracking similarly to previous autumns. To date 6,681 influenza vaccines have been administered in Andorra, together with 602 adult doses against respiratory syncytial virus and 793 COVID-19 vaccine doses.
