Judicial probe into €200,000 irregularities in La Massana officials' pension plan

The municipal employee who was provisionally suspended over alleged irregularities in the management of the officials’ pension plan went on sick leave after returning to work last week and has not resumed his post. He had served as the interventor of the Comú of La Massana until December 2023.

The provisional suspension followed an internal report ordered by the current municipal team, which pointed to possible irregular actions in the administration of the pension plan. The measure was taken to protect the integrity of the file and ensure a proper investigation.

The report estimates that irregularly managed funds could amount to about €200,000. Among the anomalies identified are payment of contributions to workers who, under the plan’s 2011 rules, were not eligible beneficiaries—such as trusted appointees and temporary staff—and the redistribution of budgetary surpluses among members based on salary, a practice that favoured higher earners.

The Batllia has opened a judicial investigation, assigned to Specialized Chamber No. 3. The Comú referred the case to the Public Prosecutor’s Office following advice from its legal office and is now awaiting the court’s decision.
